ONGC Geologists and Engineers Exam Pattern 2026
1. Selection Process Overview
- Three Stages: The process consist of a Computer Based Test (CBT), a Personal Interview, and a Medical Fitness examination.
- Group Discussion: Shortlisted candidates may face a Group Discussion, but is not of qualifying nature.
- Final Weightage (Total 100 Marks):
- CBT Score: 85 marks
- Interview: 15 marks
2. Computer Based Test (CBT) Details
- Format: Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ), 2 hours total duration.
- Question Distribution (85 Questions Total):
- Concerned Domain (Petroleum/Mechanical/Chemical/Instrumentation/Geology): 40 questions
- Aptitude Test: 25 questions
- General Awareness: 10 questions
- English Language: 10 questions
- Negative Marking: There is no negative marking.
- CBT Qualifying Cut-off:
- General / EWS / OBC: Minimum 45% marks
- SC / ST / PwBD: Minimum 40% marks
- Shortlisting Ratio: Candidates are shortlisted for the interview in a 1:5 ratio based on their CBT performance.
3. Personal Interview Requirements
- Interview Qualifying Cut-offs:
- General / EWS / OBC: Minimum 60% marks (09 out of 15 marks)
- SC / ST / PwBD: Minimum 40% marks (06 out of 15 marks)
4. Merit List & Final Appointment
- Tie-Breaking Criteria: In case of equal total score, the candidate with a higher CBT score is prioritized. If CBT score are also tied, the older candidate is placed higher.
- Medical Fitness: Qualified candidates from the interview are arranged by rank for a mandatory Medical Examination.
- Final Offer: An "Offer of Appointment" is issued only to candidates who are declared medically fit according to ONGC rules.
Pay Scale & Mode of Selection
- Pay Scale: Rs.60,000 - 1,80,000/- E1
- Selection Process: Selection on the Basis of CBT Exam, Interview & Medical Fitness. The Candidates may go through the Medical Fitness standards laid down under ONGC Medical Examination of Employees Rules.
