How to Check Sarkari Result Online: Step-by-Step Guide

Last updated:

A government exam result can appear as a personal scorecard, a merit list, a cut-off list or a PDF of selected roll numbers. This guide explains where to look, what to keep ready and what to do once your result is out.

What to keep ready before you open the result page

  • Your roll number or registration number (printed on the admit card).
  • Your date of birth, or the password you created while applying.
  • A copy of your admit card, in case the result page asks for any detail from it.
  • A stable internet connection and an up-to-date browser.

Steps to check your result

  1. Open the official website of the recruiting body named in the result notice. Type the address yourself or use the official link given in the notification.
  2. Look for a menu item called "Result", "Candidate Login" or "Notices".
  3. Select the exam and the stage, for example Prelims, Mains or Tier-I.
  4. Enter your roll or registration number, your date of birth or password, and the captcha.
  5. Check your name, category and marks, then download the scorecard.
  6. Save the PDF and take a printout. You will need it for the next stages.

If the result is a PDF merit list

Many boards publish a long PDF with the roll numbers of selected candidates. You do not have to read it line by line. On a computer press Ctrl+F, on a phone use "Find in page" from the browser menu, and search for your roll number or name.

If you cannot find your number, check that you are looking at the right list. Some recruitments publish separate lists for each post, category or stage.

Scorecard, merit list and cut-off: what is the difference?

A scorecard shows the marks you personally scored. A merit list ranks the candidates who qualified, usually in order of marks. The cut-off is the minimum mark a candidate in a particular category needed to move to the next stage. Cut-offs often differ for each category and are published with or after the result.

If the website is slow or does not open

Result pages get heavy traffic in the first hours. Instead of refreshing again and again, wait a little, try again at a quieter time such as late night or early morning, or try a different browser. Never enter your login details on a site that is not the official one.

What to do after the result

  • Read the notice that came with the result. It usually lists the next stage, such as a physical test, document verification or a medical examination.
  • Note the dates and the documents you must bring.
  • If the board allows re-checking or re-evaluation, apply before the deadline given in the notice.
  • Keep digital and printed copies of the scorecard and all notices.
